There is little that is more exciting than market day. Fresh produce all decked in their best, preening in stalls and calling you to “Buy. buy, buy!”
I love the market. I guess that is the Farmer’s Daughter in me. A visit to the market for us is not a chore, but a cheerful and promising date with the promises of gastronomic climaxes later.
There is just something about meeting with the people in the market and making a connection with them. You build relationships with them and you become friends. They give you the best produce and will even direct you elsewhere if they haven’t got what you want this week because they know you will come back to them.
Speaking of which, my friend here, who have me some great deals on the hamour (grouper on the left) and red snaper, promises to give me extra if I take a copy of this pic when I return. It takes a special person to shop in a market. Markets are for people who want to have a personal experience in the procurement of their food. You haggle with your purveyors and you go home with bags full of joy as the smells fill your nostrils with enthusiasm to cook.

Congratulations!! What a beautiful site – visually so clean, I absolutely love it!
Go low carb and full fat!! Less empty fillers and more taste and nutrition – way to go, because we do love our food!
Your photos are stunning.

Thanks so much Christine. Coming from you and your discerning taste for fine foods- this is a big deal! I gather that there will be many low-carb dinner parties ahead!
This is a post about the fish market and I’m a seafood freak but I can’t take my eyes off the first picture. The veggies look so vibrant and inviting! You really are a fabulous photographer K. I love shopping at markets too, it’s so much better than cold, insipid supermarket aisles!
Thanks so much! You know what, I just realized that a bunch of Dubai food bloggers have all posted blogs about the Deira/Karama “Fish” market for this month! Some of them have never been before so the different perspectives are quite interesting. I like to walk around with a 50mm lens and that pretty much frames my perspective of the world. No telephoto. Just prime. And I fit it all in. I have to shoot both the person and the environment with this lens. I love the market! I love the market! But yes, dealing with suppliers of food runs in my veins, my father is a livestock and bee farmer and my mother is a seafood purveyor.
Ahhh… fish markets in Abu Dhabi were such a treat for us as kids. From piles of shimmering sardines to sharks and swordfish! My brother would often come home with some special fish he’d ‘bonded’ with to stick in the freezer as his ‘pet’. He’s a marine biologist now – go figure! Nice photos, but not enough – I want to see MORE! 🙂
Hello hun loved this..brought to mind … we had a fish man we frequented for the past 11 years the man has retired now. He used to call us everytime a fresh haul of fish and rocks crabs came in…
My mother is in the business and I dabbled myself for a short while. Fresh seafood is a treat!
