This air fryer chicken wings recipe was created with just 3 ingredients and can be made in the Ninja Foodi or Instant Pot or another combination pressure cooker and airfryer device. I made it in my Ninja Foodi Deluxe. It is the the quickest way to get a nice spicy jerk chicken wings recipe on the table for snacking, dinner or for tailgating and family movie and games nights. This is a cheat version, but you can make my authentic jerk seasoning from scratch if you so wish.
Would you believe that this is the very first chicken wings recipe I am posting on the blog, even those I literally by chicken wings by the case? Yes. I buy chicken wings from restaurants suppliers and cut them up myself. Maybe one day I can do a video on that on my YouTube Channel. Let me know in the comments if you would love that as a way to save money on this rather expensive cut. Yes chicken wings are the most expensive cut on the chicken! Anyway, I have another video on How to Cut up a Whole Chicken that seems to want to go viral. Be sure to help it along by watching!
Air Fryer Chicken Wings
So back to these air fryer wings that I made in my Ninja Foodi Deluxe QT 9-in-1 multi cooker. I want to explain my choices in cooking methods used.
Why Pressure Cook First
Yes, this recipe could wholly be created solely in an Air Fryer, and if that is what you have, use it. In fact, you can actually modify it by cooking it in an oven or even a toaster oven or convection oven according to the time and temperatures as recommended by those appliances by their manufacturers. The reason I choose to pressure cook my air fryer chicken wings before air frying them is because I find that air frying dries out the chicken quickly and that brings me to another of my pet peeves. I LOVE chicken wings. I did say I buy them by the case load. And for good reason. They are juicy, tasty, dark meat that can be juicy and succulent when cooked properly. Most people simply cook chicken wings by high heat, which actually cooks them but does nothing to break down all the massive amounts of gelatine in the joints. This is why you will see so many leaving lots of tough gristle on the bone. Because it is tough. The way I cook my chicken wings breaks down the gelatinous gristle and makes a succulent, juicy wing that falls off the bone and with a nice crisp on the skin.
You could also pressure cook in a regular pressure cooker but because traditional pressure cookers tend to use more water, you may need to amp up the seasoning. Do not criticize my recipe if you use that method! LoL!
Can I use the Ninja Foodi or Instant Pot combination Air Fryer Pressure Cooker Air Crisp models?
You can use either. Of course, just watch your cooking times as per weight suggested by the manufacturer for the model of the appliance you have.
How can I make this without an air fryer or pressure cooker?
You can simply replicate this in the oven or toaster oven by coooking first in a sheet pan covered with foil then cranking up the oven to crisp up the skin and flip on both sides.
Can I make a much larger batch?
Yes you can mage a very large batch (it’s so good, you will want to) by simply doubling the recipe or more. However, due to the limitation of the airfryer basket, you will have to reduce that part by breaking them already pressure cooked wings into two batches to air fry separately so that the air can properly circulate.
Does the brown parchement paper help?
Yes I use parchment paper and it serves a few purposes, including helping for easier cleanup and I simply served in them on a plate for a rustic but charming presentation. It also helps the growing process and to retain the juices and oil from the chicken skin, intensifying the colour and the crispiness without extending the cooking time and drying out the chicken wings in the air fyer.

I remember my mother teaching me how to cut up a chicken when I was around 11 🙂 Haven’t had any real jerk chicken in ages! How would I convert this to using the oven as I don’t have an air fryer?

The price is still good on the model I highlighted in the recipe. Well worth it.

I wasn’t on it for YEARS either. Not a fan of kitchen clutterjunk. But I needed a proper pressure cooker as something slit my valve on my trusty WMF of Germany pressure cooker. I tried two cheap Wester replacements to no avail. This one is a 9-in-one multipot and allows you to slow cook, dehydrate, pressure cook, sear, and air fry. I also got it on a Black Friday sale for about the price of another WMF.

I had no idea there was such a thing as an instant pot / air fryer combo!
Chef and Steward says
Yes there are combination cookers that have multiple functions. The one I use is 9 in one and it has functions like pressure cooking, slow cooking, behydrate, sauté, steam, air Fryer, yogurt and others. It is the Ninja Foodi deluxe, which I have an affflink for in the post. I now use it excessively as it completely streamlines my workflow and efficiency in the kitchen, since I live and work in my kitchen.
