What do you do in Aruba except the beach and ATV Tours? What activities are there in Aruba for everyone? What is there for children young and old to keep them entertained for a couple hours? What are the off the beaten path experiences that will always make your trip stand out? As it turns out, a tour and meal at Aruba’s Ostrich Farm is the perfect way to enjoy a day in Aruba.
If you decide to take up Aruba Tourism’s offer to remote work in Aruba or bite the bullet and invest in the country and actually register a SME business here like I did? For business breakfast meetings, here is a breakfast buffet in Aruba.
This Aruba Ostrich Farm tour and dining experience was supposed to be a morning Mom and Son Date but life happens, so I rescheduled our booking for a later seating. They were very responsive and accommodating to that end. I communicated via FB Messenger.
With this whole online school and work from home life many of us are now living, it’s even more important to be able to take healthy breaks bond outside of the electronic devices. Since I run my company from home and bubs and his friends were home and fidgety on holidays all week, it was just the thing the doctor ordered.
By the time I had arrived, I had not only one child but four.
While we were there, we were joined by one more, with her daddy. She was a little scared of feeding the ostriches but warmed up quickly to hold their eggs, enjoy the feast and exploring the farm at all the cute ducks and chickens.
My booking was a special that they had advertised for a guided tour, followed by a variety crepes (all you can eat) and shaved ice. These specials are usually targeted locals on public holidays and schools (another great perk or having and extended remote work base in Aruba).
Outside of this special though, they are open daily from 9am-3pm(reduced hours during the pandemic). Their menu looks great and is rather appetising. You can even order an ostrich egg cooked in different ways on their a la carte menu. Boiled ostrich eggs require a reservation because it takes 1.5 hour to prepare. Otherwise, you are good to order on site.
The funny thing is that my initial interest was for my son, who I knew as an animal lover, would adore the opportunity to be with animals and learn about them. It turned out to be a brilliant learning experience for the kids, that fostered great bonding in a time when they had faced much isolation due to precautionary measures take to keep us all safe.
The walked away learning so much about ostriches and emus from our very funny and patient tour guide that they are ready to rival the Krafts brothers as experts on wild animals. And all but one child fed the ostriches.
THE FOOD
I didn’t have high expectations of the food – I don’t know I just wasn’t expecting an ostrich farm to step up to such an A game in the kitchen and boy was I pleasantly surprised!
I had savoury crepes for the very first time. And for my first time ever, I had 3 crepes in one sitting. I decided that I needed to taste their two offerings. Their savoury crepes were garnished with herbs that they grew in their herb boxes supplied by local organic farmer, Lorraine of Petite Greens Aruba.
Some of their herbs from boxes supplied by Petite Greens Aruba
The minced beef with creamy sauce and the chicken. Both were delicious and totally worth the calories!. I gave the edge to the minced beef with the cream sauce.
Not surprisingly, all the kids wanted sweet crepes.
For my dessert crepe, I ordered a Nutella and Banana Crepe, reminiscent of my favourite movie snack at the movies when we lived in Dubai.
My son wolfed down his Nutella crepe. He was the first to finish.
PARTING SHOT:
All our our expenses for the 5 kids and 2 adults were paid by us. This is not a sponsored review. The bill came up to USD$71.40 or Afl125.
Thanks to Pamela, who greeted us warmly and took care of us along with our server, who was able to give me her recommendations and from the taste of it, her palate was on point!
This is actually a really great discovery and I will be returning to eat their Ostrich Egg platter some time. I have never had Ostrich Eggs, have you? Would you?

Haven’t been to Aruba in years!!!!! I liked it.

So happy you came. It’s time for another visit. I hear the winters are long in the UK. Come take your camera and work remotely and lets have a ball!
imagesbytdashfield says
I’d love to but as I’m in the United States (relatives are in the UK) my traveling options are still quite limited for the time being.
Chef and Steward says
Why did I think you were in the UK while I was living in Dubai? Aruba is now open to the USA (test either prior to flying or upon arrival with conditions). Whenever you are ready to fly again, would be lovely to have you and do a photo walk together!
imagesbytdashfield says
That sounds wonderful but first I need to get my rear in gear and get my passport renewed! I let it expire this year all things considered.
Stine Mari says

It’s so great as a foreigner to have found family here because Arubans are SO FRIENDLY! The kids are our Aruban cousins and I get to be Aunty Kari!

What a cool trip! I think I’m afraid of ostriches, but I’d totally do immersion therapy.

They only put you close to the gentle ones. But even so, you could just watch and take pics and of course have a brunch with an ostrich egg Chef Marta!

What a fun family outing!! Definitely a fun change from being inside all day and a great learning experience for the kids. Those crepes look amazing too!
Chef and Steward says
Yes, exactly! The learnt so much about ostriches and emus from that experience and because it was a hands on lesson, I am sure they will never forget it. They were talking about it for hours and the play date rolled on until 8pm because they bonded so well!
